For 100 years our site at Auckland Street has been producing some of the finest craft drinks around. Stepping forward, the old cordial factory has been transformed into a classic brewpub.

Slide open the big old timber doors on Auckland Street and instead of cherry cheer and sarsaparilla, let us pull you a draught of Gladstone’s freshest craft beer, brewed on site on our 10 hectolitre, gas-fired brewhouse.

We’ll always have staple brews like our cleansing lager, pale ale and a hoppy IPA inspired by Queensland’s tropical climate. But make sure you’re also on the lookout for special editions like hazies, pilsners and yes, we have a fabulously black beer on tap.

Our fulltime commercial brewer is passionate about his craft and expresses this with producing great beers that simply taste fantastic. It’s not a coincidence our brewhouse is immaculately clean for all to marvel and we are very happy to answer any questions you may have about our process of brewing great beer. We’ve paid homage to the old Ward’s Cordial Factory by using recycled materials to transform the heritage space into a sustainable brewpub with a clever balance of rustic and style that radiates a laidback ambience with an authentic brewery experience. A place where everyone is welcome to raise a glass and escape in their own imaginations.

And our vision? Our big dream is to serve all who live and visit the beautiful Southern Great Barrier Reef fresh beer of outstanding quality and to be a venue of choice for flavour, entertainment and connection.

It was the beginning of the 20th century when a young Ernie and Wally Ward made a bet with the two men who had started a hobby cordial business in their father’s shed up at Many Peaks, Boyne Valley.

The boys won, claiming the factory equipment and started making drinks with their father Albert.

Some years later the family relocated to Gladstone where Ward & Sons officially opened the doors to the drinks factory on Auckland Street in 1922.

Everyone in Gladstone knew Ward’s Cordials and everyone had a favourite flavour. Orange? Sarsaparilla? I loved Sparkling Pineapple.

Ernie worked for his father, taking over the factory and winning gold at the Sydney Royal Show in the 1950s.

In its life time, Ward’s Cordials has had three different families as its owner, with my parents taking over the business and premises in 1974.

My name is Michael and I spent my childhood watching the factory line and riding on the old Bedford trucks delivering drinks around Gladstone.

After long stint abroad I have found myself doing a full circle by returning to the old factory and embarking on a new challenge of resurrecting the old Ward’s brand and premises into an exciting Brewpub with a historic heart.

Cold beer, a welcoming smile and great space for the community to hang out at is my way of giving back to the place I grew up.
